Nepal Tourism

Nepal is one of the most gorgeous tourist destinations all over the world. It is the smallest country in South Asia. China rounds the country from the north and India lies in the south, east and west of Nepal.

The word Nepal, came from Nepa, the old name of Kathmandu valley, means “abode at the foot of the mountains. Kathmandu is the capital of Nepal. The land boasts of its isolated position in the lap of the Himalayas and two dominant neighbours India and China. Nepal’s history began with the Kiratis since 7th or 8th century. A total of 29 kings had ruled the land. The land witnessed the failure of struggle for democracy in the 20th century. From 1990 to 2008, Nepal was in civil strife. After signing a peace treaty in 2008, the people of Nepal got an election and made the democratic body polity.

The major attractions of Nepal are Annapurna Circle, Annapurna Sanctuary, Bhaktapur, Chitwan National Park, Chobar Gorge, Daman, Janakpur, Kathmandu, Lumbini, Langtang national Park, Mount Everest Trekking Route, Muktinath, Mustan Trekking Route, Narayanthan – Buddha Nilkantha, Panauti, Patan/Lalitpur, Phewa Valley, Pokhara, Tansen etc.

There are many interesting shopping complexes in Nepal, where travelers can shop different traditional, authentic Nepali things. One can buy Khukuri knife, houshold brassware, Nepalese musical instruments, flutes, gems and jewels, embroidered garments, bags, bed-cover, Nepali caps etc. Thanga is one of the famous fine arts in Nepal. These are mostly available in Tridevi Marg. Nepali music is famous for its rhythm and lyrics. One can buy CDs and DVDs from the market of Thamel.

Nepalese enjoy lots of festivals round the year. Their New Year starts in April, while some of them celebrate Tibetan New Year, Lhosar in February. They also enjoy Saraswati Puja, Maha Shivaratri, Holi, Ghode jatra (Festival of horses), Gai Jatra (Cow festival), Buddha Jayanti, Krishna Janmasthmi, Teej, Lord Indra jatra, Tihar, Bijaya Dashain etc.

Nepal has four types of cuisine within its boundary, namely Newari cuisines, Pahari cuisines, Terai cuisine, and Himalayan cuisines. Rice, dal and vegetables are the main meal, eaten daily. As beverages, tea, jand (beer made from rice), juice of sugar cane, raksi (made in rustic distilleries) chyang (millet beer) are mostly drunk.

Nepal has a mild climate through out the year. It temperature varies with topography and altitude. The summer is very hot here although humid brings relief until rain comes. The winter is also extreme here due mountain ranges. The Aautumn i.e. September to November is the best tourist season in Nepal when summer is to go by and winter to set in.

Nepal has a wide range of hotel accommodation that suits all kind of budget and luxury. There are many hotels where you can get last minute booking facility. Online booking is also reliable in all the leading hotels in Nepal.
